If my boyfriend and I get married will my income be included when his child support is calculated?

Question Details:

My boyfriend and I want to get married, but I want to make sure that my income and our marital status will not be considered when his support payments are calculated. Will I end up costing him more in support payments for his child? I have a son already and am pregnant.

Your income cannot be used to calculate his child support.  The marriage could, however, cause some adjustment in the amount.  That is because his taxes will change.  Child support is calculated essentially (not quite exactly) on after-tax income.  His tax deductions will change when you get married.  They will also change when you have your child.  He will, however, also get what's called a "hardship deduction" for the new child in the support calculation.  So when the child is born his support payment to the ex will probably go down.
