If I write a letter of resignation for a current position of which the state says I am no longer certified for. would I be eligible for unemployment benefits?
Question Details:
I was unable to take required courses for re-certification due to medical problems. Governing boards requests a resignation letter before hiring a new person for the position.
If you resign from your position for any reason, it is a voluntary separation from your job and you will not be eligible for unemployment compensation. An employee can only receive unemployment compensation if he or she is terminated by company action (for example, fired or laid off), but is not fired "for cause" (e.g. for insubordination, violating company policy, excessive absenteeism, etc.).
