If I was designated as the trustee to the estate then why would they have a different executor?

Question Details: why would they not notify me when they had a court date set? when I'm the trustee to the estate. But his brother they told me was the executor?

You seem to be mixing up terminology.   The term trustee normally applies to a Living Trust.  The term Executor normally applies when there is a will.   One person could be named as the Trustee of a trust and a different person could be named as the executor of the will.   So, what you have described could be entirely possible and nothing is wrong here.

However, the bigger picture is the fact that  a Probate has been opened and you are being kept in the dark about the proceedings.   This is disturbing.   You need to retain an attorney to assist you with this Probate matter.   There could be a lot at stake and you need representation.
