I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.   You cannot be held liable for the debts of a person that were acquired on their own and before your marriage.  Indeed, the debts are not marital property.  If you apply for a mortgage wiht you credfit, the agency will not look at your husband's credit, just yours.  you should not have any credit issues.  however, you husband should try to talk to tax consultants about settling his tax debt as he could rik incarceration.
