If I invest my money in a project, how can I make sure they dont disappear with the money and leave me with nothing?

Question Details: Someone I have met a few months ago and have done business with a few times wants me to invest in a project he wants to do. They need the money to buy equipment and to pay salary and after 3 months I get 10% of profit plus my money paid back over 8 months period. How do I make sure they dont disappear with the money and leave me with nothing
