If I had an episode yesterday wherein I was slurring and stumbling due to low blood sugar, can I be terminated for that?

Question Details:

They sent me for a drug screening that afternoon and the only thing in my system were the medications I have prescriptions for. However, when I told her it was because my blood sugar was low she didn't believe me and gave me a 30 minute lecture that I was making excuses and wouldn't admit I had a problem and stated if I acted that way again it would culminate in immediate termination.

Based on the circumstances you described, assuming your employer has more than 15 employees, if you were terminated, you may have a potential claim of disability discrimination in violation of the Americans with Disabilites Act and/or the Florida Civil Rights Act.  For more information on this topics you should consult an attorney or visit the eeoc web site at www.eeoc.gov
