If I admit to stealing in a police application, can I be charged if it's outside the statute of limitations?
Question Details:
I'm applying to be a police officer. I want to be honest and admit to stealing. I was never caught or charged. From what I understand its outside the statute of limitations. Can I be charged with a crime for admitting that?
More than likely you will not be charged with the theft as there appears to be no known victim who wishes to press charges. You may however want to be very careful of how you answer those questions in the application because theft is a crime of moral turpitude, which reflects upon your trustworthiness and integrity to even work on the police workforce.
