If a student loan was discharged in Chapter 7 (and indicated on the credit reports), can a collection agency still harass you?
Question Details: After filing Chapter 7 a few years ago, I stated receiving harassing phone call regarding my student loans. I send documentation showing the discharge and I am still receiving calls.
Hi. Although barred in MD, I am not a bankruptcy attorney. However, as a real basic matter not all student loan debts are wiped out in bankruptcy. (If they were, virtually every grad student would immediately file for bankruptcy as they have no assets but significant debt!) The same goes for certain other debts (child support, etc.) which may survive bankruptcy. I strongly suggest that you call the attorney who handled your bankruptcy to get clarification on this.
