How do I get the police to release information regarding a traffic accident?

I was run off of the road and my truck was totaled ($10,000 damage). Police refuse to give other vehicle info. I was cresting top of hill when I saw headlights in my lane. I hit ditch (filled with trees) to avoid head-on collision. Witness chased down Vehicle #2 and called police. Police refuse to release Vehicle #2's information stating there was no contact. Witness verifies Vehicle #2 was passing in a no passing and I had no choice but to hit the ditch. I had liability only. I also have uninsured motorists property damage which doesn't go into effect without the name of the other motorist. No bodily injuries. How do I get police to release the other vehicle information - name, address, etc?

I suggest that you contact the jurisdiction for the city, town, village or county for that police department and find out what the procedures are for a Freedom of Information Act request. Follow those and see if that works. If they fail to comply with the Freedom of Information reques, you may be able to seek the information by lawsuit. Good Luck
