Who pays the expenses has nothing (or very little, at least) to do with how long it takes for a distribution under a will. Under California law, a petition for final distribution cannot be filed for at least 120 days after someone was appointed the "executor" or "administrator" of the estate. That's the minimum.  How long it will actually take depends on a number of other factors. But a safe assumption is that it takes a minimum of 6 - 8 months (usually longer) before a probate can be completed and the assets distributed. The information you obtain at this site is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice. You should consult an attorney for individual advice regarding your own situation.
