Question: Divorce, Marriage, Alimony - Michigan

Asked on 11/4/2009

I was married in MI and also in Jamaica; now I'm divorcing. Can it all be done in MI?

In 2006 I was married in MI and while on our honeymoon we were married at a resort in Jamaica. I'm now looking at filing for divorce here in MI. Do I have to file in Jamaica also, or is it all done in one shot? Are there extra papers that have to be filed?

The Michigan divorce will suffice and nothing further will be necessary. The Jamaican marriage is of no consequence since you were already legally married at the time.
