If I was just given a disorderly conduct ticket for cursing to someone in public, can I really be charged for this?

Yes. The statute specifically states using profanity in public as one of the several ways to violate it. You might have some options on how to handle it. You should talk with a lawyer. You might be able to take advantage of one of the programs that serve as an alternative to prosecution.
