How do I get a collection matter removed form my credit report?

Question Details:

I was in a car accident. I never was notified or received a bill or call from the ambulance company. Collection agency never clarified what it was for. Once my mom and I investigated and confirmed it, I paid in full. It is a negative hit on my credit history and has been really hurting me with getting loans and credit. Is there a way that I can get it off my credit history?

I agree that removing it from your credit rating is probably not possible but it is always possible to submit and explanation that the credit agencies will note just below the negative notation.

1) You can ask the ambulence company to let the credit rating agencies know this was an error--that you were never given the chance to pay. The agencies might then take it off, but will more likley simply include an explanation, which is better than nothing.

2) You can also ask to put an explanation in the files, I believe.

3) Getting back to 1); if the ambulence company won't help you out, you can tell them that you will sue them for damages arising from having a higher cost of borrowing and/or more difficulty in borrowing, as well as report them to the appropriate state agencies, because of the damage they caused you by not giving you a chance to pay. That may inspire them to be more helpful.
