In Colorado Theft between $1000 and $20,000 is a class 4 felony.  There is no such thing as a 'typical' penalty - it depends on the facts of the case, whether you can pay restitution, how much was allegedly stolen, what your criminal history is, etc. etc. You shoudl definately consider hiring a lawyer to help you through this.
