I was bitten by a dog and would like the owner to pay my medical bills. The bill is under $500. How do I go about contacting the dog owner?

Prior to pursuing this matter legally you should attempt to recover your medical bills from the dog's owner. Call them and see if the matter can be resolved amicably. If it can than there should not be a problem if not than you can either call a local attorney and ask them to handle the matter for you or attempt to do so pro se (on your own).

If the matter is for such a small amount it may qualify as small claims. If so you can call the court and a clerk will usually walk you through the process of filing a small claims suit if you choose not to use an attorney. I am not admitted in MD so am unaware of the specific policy in the state but in NY it is a simple form you fill out, than court is held in the evening.

To pursue the matter outside of small claims may not be cost effective for such a small amount being sought. If you cant solve it amicably you may want to call a local attorney and see if they offer a free consultation or phone call to help walk you through the process
