What can I do to prove paternity if I think that a child is mine?

Question Details:

When my ex-girlfriend and I broke up she moved away. I have heard from multiple friends that she now has a baby and that she is telling people that it is mine. She gave her aunt custody. The baby is now 2 years-old and I have called her many times to ask about the baby. At first she denied that she even had a baby and now she is saying that it isn't mine. I want to find out if it is mine and I want at least partial custody. What can I do? I don't even know where to start.

Go to the county where the aunt lives and see if there was a case filed granting the aunt custody.  If so, hire an attorney there and ask the court to order a DNA test; if you are the  father or a possible father, you had a right to be notified before custody was given to someone else.

If no case was filed there, then filea paternity case and ask the court for an order for a DNA test.  Please know that the law in the state where the baby is will control; sek advice from an attorney in that state as to the exact procedure.  Good luck.
