What happens when an insurer denies liability?

Question Details:

I slipped on a bathroom rug and broke my leg and ankle- this resulted in surgery for a plate and 9 pins. The homeowner admits liability but her insurance company is denying liability. My medical bills are in excess of 30,000 now and i still need another surgery. What should I do?

I am a CA lawyer.  You have a signficiant injury.  Since the insurance carrier denied your claim, and is not treating you in a fair manner, you need to level the playing field.  What that means is that you need to hire a lawyer right away (here is my bad analogy - would you step into a boxing ring to fight Mike Tyson; of course not, you would hire your own professional fighter).  Search this web site for a lawyer, or ask your friends for a recommendation.  The sooner the better.
