I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  You need to send a letter to the debt collector and stating whether or not your dispute the debt.  you then need to speak to a lawyer.  most lawyers will meet with you for the firs time for free.  I am not aware of any reason that the lawyer may arrest you if you do not pay.  in fact, such a representation may be grounds to file a unfair debt collection practices complaint against the creditor.
