Should I respond to a letter that I received from a finance company concerning money owed on a property that I don't own?

Question Details:

I received a letter from Household Finance stating that I owed money on a house in New Bedford. I do not live in New Bedford, should I respond? They have the last 4 digits of my social but nothing more.

Yes. In case it's a scam in some way, don't give away any more information (i.e. don't include your full social), but send them (some way you can track delivery) a letter informing them that their information is incorrect and you do not own the property in question. You might also ask them where they drew their information from, so you have an opportunity to correct a mistake in some database or file, or see if someone is using your social to represent him/herself as you.
