What to do about noisy neighbors in my condo complex?
Question Details: I own a condo. The unit above mine is owned and rented out to 2 tenants (1 of which is always home) and the noise is constant. I have complained numerous times to the owner of the unit, the tenants, as well as the condo association. Nothing has been done. I am awoken by the creaks and stomps of the people above me. I cannot sleep and I can barely hear my TV at times. What can I do to get something done without wasting my own money? The floor of the unit above me is the problem and they are the ones making the noise, not me.
You probably can't do anything, unless the amount of noise (e.g. decibel level) and/or the hours it's being created (e.g. at 2am) exceed local noise control ordinances. Under some circumstances, the owner of the unit could take action against his/her own tenants, if they disturbing other people, but you cannot compel him or her to do this, and you cannot take action directly against the tenants, again unless they are violating ordinances.
