If I have lifetime rights in my house and was left all contents, how long do my children have to remove everything after I die?
Question Details:
So what you were left in the Last Will and testament of another person was a lifetime estate (to live in the house until you die) as well as the contents of the house, correct? I am unsure that the law gives a specific time frame as to the clearing out of the contents after you pass away and I am sure that court would state the time as a "reasonable" time to allow your family the opportunity to retrieve what would be considered part of your estate. May I make a suggestion? It may be a very good idea for you to inventory the assets of the house. Really. Take a pen and paper and write a list, take pictures of the contents that you are listing, and then take a video recording of the contents as well. And if you intend on giving certain items to certain people seek legal help to write a Will or give it to them during your lifetime. Good luck.
