Is it legal to terminate someone for being out on medical leave?

Question Details:

I have been employed for 8 months. 1 month ago I had a partial mastectomy and treatment for breast cancer; my employer is now taking steps to terminate me. I have not received any disciplinary actions or performance evaluations during my employment. A month after my illness, I was given a written warning for allegedly being hostile, angry and negative towards an outside entity. There is no proof of this; its not in writing; it is all hearsay from my employer.
