I have a mother in law on my property and now the son wants money?
Question Details: I have a mother in law mobile home on my property that has been there for more than 10 years, the mother in law has passed away and the son wants money for the mobile home. Can he get money from us or does the mobile belong to the one who owns the land?
If its personal property than it is part of her estate, and her beneficiaries (and I assume that her son is one) is entitled to remove the propety or get paid for it. However, whether or not it is truly a "mobile home" is not clear. You did not give details, for example, is it on wheels; has it been permanently affixed to the ground, etc? Different states define what is considered to be a "mobile home" is varying ways. Your best bet is to speak with a local real estate attorney on the matter. Additionally, see how the town that you are located in categorizes it. In other words, is it being taxed as real or personal property?
Best of luck.
Most mobile homes here arev licensed with DOL. Check for all owners possible. Do you know who put it on the land? Was it there before she moved in and she was renting it? Generally ,this would be her personbal property and if you wanteed to keep it you would heve to buy it from her estate. Need more facts.
