If there is a judgment against me can they take my money and personal possessions?

Question Details:

I have a judgment against me and business by yellow pages. I cannot afford to pay as I am unemployed. I was told that they can seize my bank accounts and cash. What else can they take? Money in credit cards? My clothes?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  The creditor may take your money in the bank, lien your home (and foreclose on it to take its money out of any sale proceeds), and garnish your wages if you become employed.  If the judgment is so high that you do not think that you will be able to repay it and your credit is bad as it is, you may want to think about filing bankruptcy as you will be able discharge this debt forever and never pay it back.  I suggest that you meet wiht a lawyer and bring all the legal documents with you. most lawyers will meet with you the first time for free.
