I had a party and got charged with obstrution of justice, hosting and MIC, what do I do?
Question Details:
I had a party and cops showd up and busted alot of people and left after I dupped all the beer out and 5 mins later they came back and arrested me for obstrution, MIC, and hosting
In Kansas, I usually see obstruction of justice charges brought when the Defendant has allegedly given false information to the police. Is this what happened? Also, when you say MIC, do you mean MIP - minor in possession of alcohol? Are you over 21? I need more information to give you a sound opinion. Feel free to email or call me if you want to discuss this further.

These charges are all most likely misdemeanors and punishable by jail up to a year or a fine or both. If you are a first time offender you may be eligible for a diversionary program whereby the state may permit the charges to be dropped as long as you compete the program. However, if you have a criminal record you will likely not be able to get into this program. I suggest that regardless of whether you have a record or not, that you hire a lawyer to represent you in this case as you do not want to risk having a record and these charges will remain on your record if not dealt with and may prevent you from getting into college or getting a job.
