An owner above my unit caused a flood, how can I be reimbursed for rent/property damage?

Question Details:

I am currently renting an apartment from a company. The apartment was flooded when an owner 3 floors above me triggered the fire detector in his unit causing my unit several floors below to be flooded. I suffered property damage but I never purchased property insurance. I spoke with the company I am renting from and requested to be reimbursed for that month as I could not live there because of the state of the apartment however they refused. They replaced the carpet and repaired much of the apartment but there are still minor aspects which need to be fixed and it has been 3 weeks.
