I bought a business and the previous owner opend another one near our store, what are the actions I can take?
Question Details:
I bought a business about 1 1/2years ago and found out previous the owner bought another store near us. It is same kind of business and I can see that we will lose customer. I want to find out what kind of action I can take against him.
If you, as part of buying the business, had some non-competition clause or agreement with the former owner, that would be enforceable per its terms, and you could possibly prevent him from opening a competing business near you. But without such a contractual agreement to not compete, he is, unfortunately, free to do this--just as anyone else would be free to open a competing business near you, in the absence of some agreement to not do so.
