I would speak with a disability attorney in your are on the matter for more of a detailed explanation. But it is my understanding that if you are receiving temporary disability payments through a private plan - perhaps a plan that you yourself purchased? - you can also collect Social Security Disability Income so your payments through the private carrier may not stop.  However, depending upon the type of long term disability policy you purchased, your long term disability carrier may be entitled to an offset in an amount equal to your social security disability benefits. Get some advice from someone in your area who can read your plan and let you know for sure.  Good luck to you.
