If I'm having my car repaired and was told that it would take a week and a half but has now been 6 weeks, what can I do?

You need to involve the police perhaps. Go back and explain that this is absolutely wrong, it is a breach of their contract with you and you want your vehicle back. Indicate you did not authorize 6 weeks of work and explain that you will take your vehicle to another mechanic. Involve the police if you are nervous about going alone.
