If I am being interrogated for a stolen wallet I did not steal, what should I do?
Question Details:
I left my debit card at a store around the same time frame a woman left her wallet. Some people called into the store claiming that they knew me/ the woman and retrieved the wallet/made charges or stole money. I went into get my debit card and was told that I was involved in the case; since I have been interrogated by the police and was told I was going to be confronted by a detective. What should I do?
At this point you have not been charged with a crime, however I would advise you that anything you say to the police at this point can be used against you in court. So I would not say anything further to the police, investigator, or detective and request that you speak with an Attorney first. It sounds like they are simply questioning you not so much as a suspect, but to find out more information relating to the stolen money or wallet. Regardless, be careful in speaking with the police and at this point, I would consult a local criminal defense attorney in my area for further instruction.
