If I am a tenant in the last month of my lease and the owner has put the residence on the market and has installed a lock box for showings, do I have to let the owner or agents come in?
Question Details:
I have a teenager and a dog in the residence during the day and we don't want to be bothered during the night. We will be out in 2 more weeks and want to tell them they cannot come in until we are gone. Is that legal?
Unfortunately, it is not legal to exclude the landlord, realtor, prospective buyers, etc. entirely. However, at the same time, they may not enter at will, either. As long as you are still renting--that is, even for the next 2 weeks--they may only enter on reasonable notice (generally held to be 24 hours), at reasonable times (typically more-or-less normal work hours, late morning or early afternoon on a weekend, or as the tenant--you--agree).
