If I am a month behind on rent and my landlady came in my house while I was gone and took my computer and other items, is that legal?

It isn't legal to engage in self-help.  Contact the police and report the theft.   If she still refuses to return the items, sue her in court for the value of the other items, the computer and the cost of recreating the information on the computer.
