What to do if I'm a college freshman and have recently gotten a criminal trespassing charge?
Question Details: I was climbing down an entrance into a tunnel on campus and a rock was knocked down onto my head and I was injured. An ambulance came and picked me up and the campus police also arrived on the scene. There were no signs around the tunnel entrance saying I could not go into the tunnel, there was only a metal grate that was unlocked blocking the entrance. What will most likely happen to me in court?
Usually, because you are a college student, and there was no one injured (other than yourself) and no other victims involved, my experience has shown that prosecutors and judges may give you an opportunity to keep a clean criminal record by either completing a term of probation or to simply stay away from that area of campus. I would still contact a criminal defense attorney in your area to discuss you available options to keep your criminal record clean.
