If I'm a 17 year old and resident, when can I leagally move out of my parents house?
Question Details: I have some friends with a house that I could move into and I'd continue school. I have a stable job so I can support myself. So is there any chance that I can move out now without taking it to court?
Not unless they consented to the move or you emancipated yourself under the laws in your state. The reality is that in most states 18 is the age of majority ( in some states it is 19) and your parents have a right to dictate where you live until then. There are always extreme situations dealing with abuse but then different issues would have to be addressed and different laws would apply. Good luck.
