You must petition the district court in the county you live in for emancipation. You must be at least 16 years old and be a resident of your county for 1 year. You must be able to give the reason for requesting emancipation. In court, you will have to prove to the court that you are of sound mind and can conduct your own affairs (including financial affairs). In other words, you have to prove that you can live independently and take care of yourself. Keep in mind that if you are emancipated, you will have many of the responsibilities of an adult. Your parents will no longer be legally obligated to support you.
