How to defense and mininum the compensation in this case

Question Details: 3 months ago, my mom and her co-worker(Lisa) fought in their woking place (a restaurant in FL), both are injuried, Lisa called the police and then was send to hospital. 5 days later, restaurant paid partial payment ($2,000) for hospital bill without discuss with us. Then yesterday, restaurant called as a middle man tried to settle this issue. Lisa asked mom to paid total $4,000 (including the $2000 previous paid by restaurant). Please note 1. the restaurant didn't buy insurance for both employees 2. my mon tried to settle it 3 months ago, while Lisa was out of touch
