how to defend in small claims court a "he said she said" inquiry

Question Details: a guy is harassing a girl saying she agreed to pay him money. there was nothing in writing and she told him she would not do it. he wants to take her to small claims court. how should she defend herself and what rights does she have?

For starters, she should re-read the complaint filed against her.  She should then organize the main points she wants to make in her defense.  Possibly organizing paperwork that relates to the claim, getting witnesses lined up, obtaining records of pertinent telephone calls, if any.

Just remember to stay calm; finger pointing and a shrill voice are sure to irritate the judge.  Basically, make this guy prove his case. 

Note: If you need help persuading a witness to appear, have the clerk's office prepare a subpoena for him/her.
