Generally, in New York, at sixteen people are charged as adults.  Youthful Offender treatment is sometimes available for people under nineteen.  For certain crimes, however, children can be charged as adults.  I am a New York criminal defense and family law attorney.  Give me a call if you would like to discuss the situation.  It would be my pleasure to speak with you about the case.  Darren M. Shapiro, Esq. 631-882-3140.
