I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  The statute of limitations for most automobile accidents is 2 years from the date of the injury.  The representation made to you was not the entire truth.  you have 2 years from the date of the accident to file the lawsuit itself.  if you simply send a letter of a claim to the insurance carry and the case is not resolved and no suit is filed by you within 2 years from the date of the accidnet then the case is time barred and you cannot obtain any money from the insurance company.  I suggest that you contact a lawyer to file the case asap so you do not lose out on your rights.
