How long can insurance company's string along a car repair without totalling it or returning in condition it was in prior to claim?
Question Details: Apparently a part for the car's computer (damaged from flood waters) has been on back order for a long time and our understanding from the shop is that it could take a very long time to get the part? We have already been waiting a month since we reported the problem to the insurance company. We don't have a rental agreement with the insurance but we never thought a repair would be stretched out this long (and we don't even know if this part will fix all of the problems yet)
Whose fault was the accident? If it is the other parties fault they typically will provide a rental for a reasonable period of time. If they chose the repair facility they arguably are responsible to provide the rental for the duration. If you chose the place you need to put the pressure on that sevice/repair facility to give you a loaner after the insurance company gives you notice to turn in any rental. If you were at fault and this is under your collision then I suggest calling your agent .
