Question: Criminal Defense - Minnesota

Asked on 7/8/2009
How does the criminal point system work in regards to being to sentenced and or going to jail or prison.
My friend has a pretty extensive record, alot of petty charges. He has spent time in prison for a violation. He has a Domestic assault case in 2006 and now one in 2009. The one now is being charged as a felony 5th degree assault. He's also on probation in another county. How would the point system work in his case?

AttorneyPages has verified that this person is an attorney.

He receives points based upon whether it  is a felony, gross misdemeanor or misdemeanor.  With felony domestic situations, they are usually pretty stiff on sentencing.
