How does a sole proprietor go about hiring there first employee? Where do we find the right forms etc.?
Business is in San Francisco and has never had a paid W2 employee. This new position will be a salaried managerial position based on a 30 hour work week. the business does already hire instructors as independent contractors.

You need an empoyer id no from both the state (EDD) and federal government (IRS)  You have the employee fill out a w-4 form and the comparable form for the EDD.  You then need to comply with reporting requirements, the IRS and EDD will send you booklets.
