How do I research an attorney's track record? Cases won/loss and what type of cases he has tried?

You would have to go to the clerk's offices of every county in which he or she has handled cases.  This may be difficult because lawyers handle cases in multiple jurisdictions.  You could also go to the county in which you are located and find out who some his former clients were and ask them about the attorney.
