How do I, or should I, sue in small claims over a medical procedure that did not help my condition although I was led to believe otherwise?

Question Details:

I am being billed $1500.00 for a medical bill I do not feel I should have to pay. It is a laser type treatment for hemorrhoids. I had 4 or 5 treatments, paid $500.00 cash for the initial treatment. I was told by the Dr. that I was improving, but have found out after going to a Gastroenologist that I was not any better at all. After each visit I asked if I owed any money and was told "no" (my insurance has a high deductible). I have tried to contact them by email and letter about this matter, but I have been ignored. I keep getting bills and they are threatening to turn me over to collections.
