How do I know if a subpoena was dismissed?
Question Details:
I went to a lawyer to get a subpoena dismissed so I would have to show up and testify. He told me he knew the lawyer in charge of the case and said he would call him so I wouldn't have to show up. Should I receive a notification or something stating that I don't need to show up anymore or should I just take the lawyers word for it?
You do not just want to take someone's word for it, even if they are an attorney. Not showing up to testify is considered to be contempt of court - a criminal offense. You can be heavily fined and incarcerated for failing to appear. Obviously then you do not want to chance being in violation of this court order.
You will need to get a written excuse from appearance issued by either the court in question or the counsel who was responsible for the subpoena being issued in the first place. Accept nothing else. If you do not get such a document, then you should plan on making an appearance in court.

Are you a lawyer?
