I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. Police officers may report and coordinate with other police officers regarding people driving on the highways - especially reckless driving to prevent serious death or bodily harm. The police offer that gave your son the ticket may not testify to your son's driving as he did not see it. rather, the off duty officer will have to come to court to prove that your son was drving recklessly. I suggest that you fight this on the basis that the other officer did not have a radar and may not be able to say your son was driving recklessly. However, the officer may come to court and testify to what he saw. Therefore, i suggest that you hire a lawyer to come to court to represent your son to see if there is any way to reduce the charge or have it dismissed. most lawyers will give you a free consultation.
