How can I retract a statement that wasn't fully accurate as to how things really happened?

Question Details:

I made a statement and was forced to by the cop even when I told him that I wasn't stable enough to write it because I was to emotional from what had really happen. I now want to go back and retract it but I am a minor and am not sure if I will be sent to Juvenile Detention for something like this. What is going to happen if I go to the police station and tell them about what I wrote and that I want to retract it? Will I go to juvenile hall??

Police officers want to take statements from people immediately after the incident becasue it is usually the most clear in the person's mind.  however, lots of times people need a day or so to reflect and recall what happened.  it is understandable that you may not have been as accurrate as you would have liked.  i suggest that you call the police and let them know that you believe that your statement was not as accurate as you recalled on the day you wrote it and would like to amend it.  they will not arrest you as you were not lying to cover up the incident, but rather trying to clarify.  the lawyers that get involved in the case will see that you retracted your statement and it will be an issue for the lawyers to deal with. you may be a witness at some point in the case and your statements will be used against you in court.  but as long as you tell the truth you never have anything to worry about.
