Question Details: A month ago, I fell working at our local bingo hall. I was walking around selling bingo papers when I walked through something that was slippery wet and landed on my back. Their were a lot of witnesses and workers that helped me get up after about a half hour being on the floor. I could't move my knee without help. I went to my hospital emergency room immediately after. I sprained my knee, but I already have back problems and I am still going through treatment. I've had an MRI done, cause now my back is not the same. I now have tightness and aches when sitting and standing long.
If you have your own insurance that is applicable--say, disability insurance, in the event you are two badly hurt to work--you can file a claim under your policy.
If the bingo hall has worker's comp and you would be covered under it as an employee, you can put in a worker's comp claim to them--you were hurt on the job.
However, the only other way to seek compensation in this situation would be to sue the bingo hall. If the hall was negligent, or unreasonably careless, in not cleaning up what you slipped on, you could look to recover medical costs, lost wages, out-of-pocked expenses, and possibly pain and suffering. But they would have to be at fault; for example, if a patron at the hall spilled some water or soda right before you slipped on it, the hall would have no chance to find out about or do anything about it, and there is no fault.
