horse damaged a trailer

Question Details: While parked at a county owned property, my horse was tied to my trailer and kicked the trailer parked next to mine, causing minor damage.Vehicle's owner now wants me to pay.To "keep the peace" I am inclined to but he wants me to pay to have the whole side of his trailer buffed out,not just the damage made by my horse. I don't think that is fair, and in realty,I'm not even sure I'm liable anyway. But, I don't want to end up in court. Am I actually liable? Should I pay for the whole cost as the vehicle owner wants, offer less, or nothing?

If an animal under your control damaged another's property, you are liable. But you're only liable for the actual damage done by your animal.
