Question Details:

Had to break lease and move to another location to move in-laws in with us due to medical conditions. Are there exemptions in the law allowing this?

The first thing you need to do is review your lease agreement. See if it states any reasons that would allow you to break your lease and if you have to pay a penalty or extra fees for this. Next, discuss the situation with your landlord and see if he/she will work with you.

Usually, reasons such as the landlord not abiding by the terms of the lease (i.e. allowing noisy neighbors, excessive crime on the premises, etc.) that result in you not being able to enjoy the premises are legal reasons to break a lease. But unexpected things happen in life, and some landlords are very understanding.
